Paul Mampilly: The Space Industry Is Booming 📈

Worldwide, 180 rockets were launched in 2022 alone. SpaceX, Elon Musk’s revolutionary rocket company, successfully launched 61 of those — tying a record set by the Soviet Union in 1980.

China was a close second to SpaceX, with 60 rockets launched. 

2023 Is Going to Be a Breakout Year for the Space Industry

SpaceX, on its own, is planning for 100 launches in 2023. And what’s driving it is the cost of carrying a payload into space. Costs for taking 1 kilogram (2.21 pounds) into space are collapsing.

The 1960s Apollo program cost an estimated $194 billion. Today, SpaceX charges a mere $67 million to book a ride on its Falcon 9 rocket. 

But Costs Are Setting Up to Plummet

Space X’s Starship (still in development) is set to plummet prices. It’ll crush the cost of shipping not just for spaceflight but for all companies. At $200 per kilogram, Starship will be cheaper than FedEx or UPS for most international destinations. 

In fact, Starship will be competitive even on many domestic routes. Bottom line, space costs are about to get crushed, and it’s going to absolutely revolutionize the space industry.

The #GBC100 is up 0.23% today and down -7.31% since we started tracking it on September 2, 2022. 

The price markups for our stocks are continuing. I believe this is because macro speculators are covering their short positions. And they’re doing this because it’s becoming clear that the issue we’ll be worrying about in 2023 is growth, not inflation. 

Remember, a slow growth environment is ideal for our stocks because it places a premium on what is scarce and what our companies have in abundance — growth.

There’s no particular theme to today’s best performers…

MARA 0.00%↑ Marathon Digital Holdings Inc. is seeing bid up buying because of Bitcoin’s price hitting $19,000 for the first time since November 2022. 

QS 0.00%↑ QuantumScape Corp., a pre-revenue company pursuing solid state batteries, is seeing buying this morning, perhaps because of price markups in other new energy stocks.
