Dean: Did Altcoin Season Just Kick Off? 🫨
While it’s exciting to celebrate Bitcoin USD (BTC-USD) making new highs, something about its performance relative to altcoins felt off . . .
Quarter after quarter, BTC soared while the rest of the crypto market languished.
That divergence from the broader altcoin market left many wondering when — or if — altcoins would catch up.
But recently, the largest altcoin, Ethereum USD (ETH-USD), is on the move:
This huge move is partly due to ETH treasury companies budding up, absorbing massive amounts of the token:
SharpLink Gaming Inc. (Nasdaq: SBET) is up 29% on the day, 178% on the month, and over 500% in the last six months since announcing its ETH treasury:
As the first publicly traded company to adopt it as a reserve, it aims to be the Michael Saylor, or Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR) of ETH:
It plans to use ETH to earn yields from staking the token and generate even more yield by restaking it.
ETH may prove to be a solid treasury asset considering that it can be staked and restaked, unlike BTC.
I won’t get in the technical weeds here, but the big takeaway is that demand is coming for ETH, and potentially altcoins.
As this unfolds and the crypto market heats up, we’re betting this sector will catch on fire! 🔥
Early to the Party 🥳
While most altcoins lagged, this one was early to the party!
It’s up 6% on the week, 14% on the month, and 210% on the year!
I’m referring to decentralized finance (DeFi) giant, Aave USD (AAVE-USD).
If you’re unfamiliar with DeFi, think of it as crypto banks on the blockchain that offers lending, borrowing, and yield earning in one place.
The best part?
You don’t have to leave your house, interact with anyone, or wait days for approval to do so.
In fact, AAVE simplifies this by reducing the wait to borrow or lend to mere minutes.
Recently, AAVE crossed a new milestone of $50 billion in net deposits.
If this insane volume flowed through a traditional bank, it would rank as the 47th largest U.S.-chartered commercial bank by consolidated assets.
This would place it ahead of financial giants like Deutsche Bank and Barclays.
AAVE is closing in on these historic banks with market caps of $59 to $66 billion.
But it’s valued at just . . . $4.9 billion?
Do you see where I’m going with this?
If AAVE is on par with industry leaders in some metrics — ahead of what could be a huge crypto bull market — then it’s likely due for a huge repricing.
When that happens, who knows what our open gain could be!
